Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is a very special day for me. Not just receiving red packets before I’m married, but also the time when I get the chance to meet my family and relatives. When we grow older, we seems to delve into our own life. We work, taking care of our relationship, socialise with close friends and taking care of ourselves. We have forgotten the once big family with big gathering joy. I’m not a big fan of big gathering, but when I’ve been away from home for so long, I started to yearn for that feeling.
Whinning will not get me anywhere, so instead, I create my own little culture with just my son and husband. I made some typical Chinese New Year cookies and have a family meal. In the morning, we dressed up a little and exchanging mandarin for a red packet. In the red packet, we fill in some money to bring lots of luck and prosperity. Red is our tradition auspicious colour, and so we all dress in red, except my son cause he do not have any red cloth. My son will say out loud some auspicious words to greet me and my hubby, like “Gong Xi Fa Cai” (Congratulation and lots of fortune) or “Shen Ti Jian Kang” (Stay healthy). I even take some initiative to use one of my drawing and turn it into a red packet I made myself. Here are the outcome.
