Going be a long story

Sorry for MIA. Had a great holiday back in Malaysia visiting my parents and meeting relatives and friends. My whole 3 weeks were a blast of fun time and full schedule. Let’s see how should I begin, my flight back to Kuala Lumput (KL), Malaysia was on the 16th June. Arrived on the next day around 17:15 Malaysian time. It was a long flight but so far my son was pretty excited about the trip. So the whole journey was pretty pleasant when he is not angry or frustrated. Greeted by my parents around 20:00 with lots of yummy food cooked by my mom and catching up what we have been missing. We were really tired but we managed to adapt to the jet lag.

My first day after the refreshing night sleep, we went out to buy some new toys promised by my parents to my son. Then we went to the coffee shop that we used to go to get the nostalgic feeling back. Opposite was Sephora and I knew in the rest of my holidays, I won’t have enough time to shop what I need to buy before heading back. So I quickly checked it out and bought as many cosmetic product I could. In the end, what I bought was mainly the face mask and foot mask that my husband and I love the most! Then some MAC eyebrows pencil and some aroma essential oil from MUJI. What you need to know that Malaysia is a very hot and humid country. Majority of our outlet here are air conditioned and most of them are in a mall. When I mentioned buying toys for my son, went for a coffee and Sephora MUJI shopping, it was all in 1 destination! Convenient right! Though it sounds like an ideal place and very city like, I do miss a lot of the day when I can walk outside to get a cold breeze of air. That is why, for my preference, in the end I still love Slovakia where I am staying now. Some said it is always greener on the other side, when you used to so much of the hustle city life, you tend to prefer the country life later on. As for me, I think this isn’t how I think I am but instead my preception change when I get the taste of peaceful life. Always dream of owning a house nearby some farm or green mountain side where I get to sit at the backyard, enjoying a sip of coffee checking out the view.

Anyway, our first trip was to Langkawi. It is an island in Kedah which is north west of Malaysia. It is an island with all duty free product and a lot of foreigner loves to go there for cheaper alcohol. We went to a very nice resort called Ritz Carlton. They have a very nice suite and private beach. Here are some photos to share.

After the Langkawi trip with parents, my husband, son and I went to Melaka. This trip was only to revisit all the places we went when we stayed there. We visited Aunt Nat, our favorite economy rice restaurant! Economy rice here is like buffet style. You choose the size of your rice portion, then you get to pick any dishes that are displayed on the table. Then Aunt Nat told us that it hit them very hard during the covid time. But it will get even harder soon since the government is going to stop the subsidy aid for small business. Hope she can get through this coming tough time. Then we went to some of our favourite restaurant and here are the list:

  • Stolen cup ( they expanded with fresh pastry)

  • Old Mark ( speciality in fluffy pancake)

  • Sharing Plates ( nice breakfast and coffee)

  • Baboon ( love their lemongrass drink)

  • Daily Fix ( specialty in pandan pancake)

  • Hainam Jit Chicken Rice

  • Curly Tails (fancy food)

  • Sotong bakar in Jonker st

There are more option that we wanted to try, but in the end we only have the time for these. When I was in Melaka, the one thing that I expericed was the heat! It was hotter than KL and I am not sure of the reason. Anyway, so much had changed especially the beach that I used to bring my dog Summer was no longer there. They fill the sea with land and expected the area for more development. Kind of sad since it was one of my most memorable memories that I shared with Summer and it was no longer there.

After the Melaka trip, we head back to KL to meet my nephews who traveled all the way from Sydney just to visit Oli and my parents. I couldn’t believe they are such a big boys already. Catching up with them gave me such a sweet memories as their aunt and Oli really enjoys playing with them! We tried out Escape Game, have some night out drinks and going coffee hunting almost every morning. Here I will list out all the cafe we went:

  • Ono - Petaling Jaya

  • Cream - Our long time favorite

  • What’s on Tap - Mont Kiara

  • Wu coffee Gallery - Kota Damansara

  • Bean Brothers - Petaling Jaya

  • Closer - with good food!

  • 23.5 Coffee Roastery - Mont Kiara

  • Whisk - One Utama mall

About the food list, I think I will leave it for the next blog.
